Sharing My Story
My name is Myles Darryl Cabbagestalk. I have cerebral palsy, but I am not my disability. I define myself as a CP warrior. I believe that there’s nothing that I can’t do.
My faith keeps me grounded and focused on what I can do instead of what I cannot do. I am reminded to keep fighting even when all hope seems lost. I never thought I would be able to overcome the obstacles I overcame. Through my faith, I was able to conquer challenges because I have faith within myself. When you are faced with a challenge, do not give up. Even when you don't see it, hope lies at the end of the dark road.
I enjoy inspirational writing and I like to write motivational notes, affirmations, and poetry. However, inspirational poetry is what I like to write the most. Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Amanda Gorman, and Brandon Leake are some of my favorite poets. I am inspired by the messages that these poets express in their poems. My creative juices flow when reading when reading these poems.
In the summer of 2019, I started performing my original poetry at my camp’s talent show. My first performance, I resited I Am. I remember this day like it was just yesterday. My poem touched so many people's lifes. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Writing this poem was just a way for me to get my thoughts down on paper. It never occurred to me that the poem would be used as an inspiration. I wasn't expecting such a reaction. This talent show pushed me, to continue sharing my poetry with people.
When people first come into contact with me, they assume that I can’t do something because of my appearance. Hopefully, by reading my blog, you will get to know me from the inside. I aim to encourage people to live their lives just as they are. It is important for others to know that obstacles are just hurdles to overcome.
I wish to speak to different audiences about different aspects of my life as a motivational speaker. I will be able to inform those who is walking in my shoes that there is still a lot of opportunity ahead of them. To those who don't walk in my shoes, I want you to know that I am more than what you see.
With so much to share, I need to share my story. It is my dream to inspire millions of people. The next step in making this dream come true is to expand my audience. This blog will allow me to do that.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
